Yupei Pearl Hu, MD, MPH

Dr. Hu is a Duke-trained dual board-certified psychiatrist who treats adults, college students, adolescents and children struggling with anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).  Dr. Hu attended medical school at National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan. Then she completed both general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.

Dr. Hu started her research interest in OCD in 2010 as a MPH student at Harvard School of Public Health and continued her passion at OCD Institute, McLean Hospital, Belmont. During her training years at Duke, she fulfilled a two-year focused practicum in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Later, she further advanced her clinical expertise in OCD, including psychotherapy, medication management and neuromodulations. Since then, she has been adept at various forms of cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), including acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), exposure therapy, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT). She has supported numerous clients with anxiety, stressful life events, relationship difficulties, work-life balances and career path changes.

In addition to CBTs, Dr. Hu is skilled in mindfulness elements from Mindfulness-Stress Reduction Program (MBSR). She absorbs interdisciplinary therapeutic elements with the vision to streamline psychiatric services.

Dr. Hu has worked in renowned psychiatric institutions affiliated with Harvard University, Boston University, and Tufts University.

Advanced Training

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT @ Duke)

Dr. Hu fulfilled structured ACT training practicum for 2 years. She mastered the foundation of Relational Frame Theories (RFT) and clinical application of ACT six processes.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Dr. Hu exposed a evidence-based eight-week mindfulness program in addition to her mindfulness experience in dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT).

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Fellowship

Dr. Hu worked with TMS experts on OCD research projects as well as TMS training to the psychiatry field.

Pandemic Experiences

Physician Support Line
United States (2020) Dr. Hu responded to the calling to support physicians during COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She volunteered to be on the other end of the phone line in the great darkness of uncertainty. She also engaged her colleagues at Boston University Center for Anxiety and Related Disorder to create a Massachusetts nurse support line.
